Now, readers of my blog know I take this subject seriously and think it is a seriously misrepresented and underrecognised problem.
Use it wisely my friends or it'll be a case of "Cheque, please!"

Well, on the blog front. A bit limited due to my current night shifts and impending exam. Trying to memorise the renal tubular acidoses and clinical features of tuberous sclerosis among other things!
I am getting succour from a few of the blogs here so keep it up ![]()
And here's a video because everything will be ok:

Nearing the end of my time in the local A&E department before heading to cancer medicine. My last set of shifts are on the party section, covering late evening till dawn.
Also looming ahead in ten days time is a postgraduate exam whose revision has been hampered by some post-work lethargy. I've had a lot of changing patterns to shifts and it's kind of thrown my body clock with some insomnia last week. But has come in handy for these nights.
Caught up with a friend of mine who is emigrating. We tend to catch up about once a year and it is always very special. So next year I will need to go to Australia as so many people i know are heading there.
Outside of work Crowded House were great. Fall At Your Feet again stimulated my lacrimal glands - good job it was near the beginning so I just got a bit misty! Distant Sun was towards the end of the set and I danced and sang my little heart out.
One particular highlight was the encore below:

A snippet from the BBC News website on the vote to allow the ordaining of female bishops.
What a choice of acronymBBC religious affairs correspondent Robert Piggot said the vote had been conclusive and was accompanied by emotional scenes.
But traditionalists have warned that the decision could hasten the prospect of a split within the Church.
Conservatives who oppose the liberalisation of Church teaching on issues such as homosexuality have already set up the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (FoCA), which has promised to set up a council of bishops.

Complemented on spotting a retinal detachment. I love eyes.
Home in time to catch the second half of the Wimbledon Gentleman's Singles Final - Incroyable!
Nice bit of banter with Sand tonight. On the whole that situation is on the ↑.
Day off tomorrow and cracking on with the revision and catching up with a mate.
And all preparing for Crowded House on Wednesday (just as Sand invited me to a different gig).
I think I'll be happy with the Crowdies though. Never been a big "band" fan but they are just fabulous.
cf. current favourite song:
Distant Sun
Tell me all the things you would change
I don't pretend to know what you want
When you come around and spin my top
Time and again, time and again
No fire where I lit my spark
I am not afraid of the dark
Where your words devour my heart
And put me to shame, put me to shame
When your seven worlds collide
Whenever I am by your side
And dust from a distant sun
Will shower over everyone
Still so young to travel so far
Old enough to know who you are
Wise enough to carry the scars
Without any blame, there's no one to blame
Easy to forget what you learn
Waiting for the thrill to return
Feeling your desire burn
As you're drawn to the flame
When your seven worlds collide
Whenever I am by your side
And dust from a distant sun
Will shower over everyone
And I'm lying on a table
Washed out in a flood
Like a Christian fearing vengeance from above
I don't pretend to know what you want
But I offer love
And seven worlds collide
Whenever I am by your side
And dust from a distant sun
Will shower over everyone
God bless Neil Finn.

Sad news: Elizabeth Spriggs: Versatile character actress dies
I always wonder about that set of actors who are rarely leading men/ladies but always put in a good performance. The type that you may pass on the street and think "they're familiar".
The obituary misses out one of my favourite roles though!

A wee catch up. I should be asleep but will have to trudge on in the morning!
Three day weekend last week. First day was the spa/dinner/theatre evening with Sand. Very nice to spend the day together. Very nice. And frustrating. And still no nearer. Still skirting round that elephant in the room. A bit emotional over that over the last few days but it'll pass. Actually probably the reason why I'm still up and not been sleeping well the last few nights.
Saturday was a lazy day and DVD with the housemate - really good evening! Cooked dinner for her and her boyfriend and then we watched "Pan's Labyrinth". Good film, if a bit bizarre.
Sunday involved a walk to one of our local hills with a recently acquired friend. Nice guy, but has that sometimes annoying quality of making statements and talking mainly about himself, though he is improving in the art of two-way conversation. Maybe he's just a bit shy so only talks about what he knows.
Busy few days at work, not helped by my sleeplessness.
Frustrating incident at work - long queues at the A&E department. Two phonecalls from an understandably concerned relative about a patient in the department. He was not that unwell so was seen in time order (when patient's are "triaged" if they are of clinical concern they are moved to the front of the queue). This relative apparently "is good friends with X of the board". I politely said that he would be seen as we could, I understood her concern, but he would be seen in time order unless there was a change in his clinical need. Yes, you can take my name, I shall even spell it for you.
What I didn't say, which is what I thought, was "how dare you think so little of me and your fellow citizens that because you know someone who I don't know, who has very little bearing on my day-to-day life because we never see these mythical board of directors, will I jeopardise the care of other patients by pandering to your threats and, yes, blackmail."
I can let a lot of things pass over me but manipulative actions really get to me.
